new member, hello from Pennsylvania -- just got a CB77

This past weekend, I found yet ANOTHER Superhawk. I made the 6 hour round trip to Brooklyn, NY from Palmyra, PA to get it.

It is a late '67 with the chrome fenders. It is actually registered as a '68. Did Honda build any as '68 models?

It was advertised for $1,800, and looked pretty good online, but, when I got there, it was a lot needier. I ended up taking it home for $1,000.

The chrome on the rear fender and mufflers is shot. The front fender is bent, and the kicker gears are messed up. It allegedly was running this past summer, but, may have been sitting outside, so, I'm hoping that the engine isn't seized. I won't be able to determine that until I get a chance to remove the jammed up kicker gears. It has 10k miles on it, so, if it isn't seized there is a good chance it'll be a decent running w/o a top end rebuild.

No. Production ceased in 1967.

They look nicer in the pics than the are. None of them have exhausts are tank side panels suitable for a restoration. The '66 has a seized motor. The chrome fenders are shot on the '67 (good look finding replacements).

They're all in need of work , that is for sure.

I'd rather have one NICE one than these three.

Good news is, I thought the '65 motor was stuck too, but, the problem was a misaligned stator rubbing the rotor bad enough to prevent kicking it through.

I certainly wouldn't have bought the '66 had I found either of the other two first.

Also very envious, I don't think you'll find a person on this forum who wouldn't happily bring home a Hawk with a stuck motor or missing a few pieces.

We love them like our children, as deformed or delinquent as they may be.

Start a build thread when you pull that engine and start working (there's a forum section for Restoration Projects), we'd all love to see it.

I understand, but, I also paid to much.

The stuck motor wasn't disclosed in the listing or before I drove to go get it.
Because the seller held it for me for a few days, I felt obligated to take it, and because he, "got a lot of calls", he wasn't willing to negotiate.

For the $1,300 that I paid for it, I should have gone home empty handed. This was the first Hawk for sale within a reasonable distance for a long time, so, I took it.

Both mufflers and head pipes are crap, and overall cosmetics are not very good. If it was in good condition cosmetically it would have been worth the money, stuck motor an all. But, looking at it more rationally, I think that I paid too much.

If I had only known that the other two were going to be for sale shortly after, I'd have definitely walked.

I'll definitely start build threads when I finally get to that point.

For now, I've got a few other projects that need to be completed first, so, these will get stuck in the corner for now. I'll keep an eye out for some of the harder to get parts in the meantime.
