My "newbie" story begins with the fact that Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance has been one of my favorite books since I first read it long ago. I had never owned nor ridden a motorcycle before, but as an engineer, I had that "zen" feeling for mechanical things that Pirsig writes about, and way back in my mind had always wanted a motorcycle. Fast forward to 2005, cruising the "Motorcycle" section of Craigslist. There was a photo of an old, dusty, rusty, bike for sale in a nearby garage. I had no idea what it was (and neither did the owner) but it just looked like a classic bike that was begging me to fix it up. It was missing the front fender, chain guard, cables, brake and clutch levers and perches, mirrors, the front brake panel, etc, etc, but it looked salvageable, so I bought it and the rest, as they say, is history. I was hooked when I started working on it and was amazed at how well the old parts had held up. Most if it just needed cleaning (besides the engine and carb rebuilds). I was extremely impressed at the engineering. The bike still looks old and somewhat rusty, but that's fine with me. It's what's on the inside that counts! I just joined your community tonight, after finding it from a google search. I'm contemplating the purchase of a '65 superhawk CB77 (which is currently in my basement) and this seemed like a good place to get helpful advice. My name is Charles, I live and attend college full time in Northern California, and I've never ridden a motorcycle before, this will be my first. I look forward to getting to know you folks and hopefully getting some tips and pointers for this rather daunting project I'm about to undertake... My name is harry. My first bike was a 196? 305 dream, i was 14 years old. I always wanted a superhawk or a 305 scrambler but never got either. I recently bought a 1968 305 superhawk . It's in pretty rough shape but most of the parts are there although someone made a chopper out of it. I will be restoring it as close to original as i can. the engine turns over but i will be completely disasembling the whole bike.
I am 51 years old and i retired from the USAF in 1993 after 21 years(Metals technology/machinist/welder). I then started working on commercial aircraft but a year ago i retired again and took a year off. I will be leaving in the next 2 weeks to go work in germany as a contractor on army helicopters (AH-64 apaches and UH-60 blackhawks) I have quite a few bikes including several ZX-12's and two hayabusas (one of them turbocharged)I have loved bikes since i was a kid and will never stop riding them as long as i am physically able to ride. I'm married and have 5 daughters (all grown up). My other hobbies are land speed racing,drag racing,doing track days on road racing courses,scuba diving and coin collecting. OK, folks, as the newest member - for the present - my contribution:
I lusted after a CB77 as the 15-year-old possessor of a Honda 90 in 1968. Finally, in 1987, I found and restored mine, which I still own. It is overdue for another restoration, of course. It is original apart from the rear shocks, that came off a CB400F. The CB77 shares a garage with an assortment of other bikes, including the following Hondas: 1961 C102, 1974 XL250, 1976 CB400F, 1982 CB1100F (currently a post-classic racer), and 2006 VTR1000. I am sorta tickled that in the US (though not in my home country of New Zealand) my favourite two Honda road bikes are both called "Superhawk". Other brands presently in the shed include OSSA, Yamaha, BMW, and Royal Enfield. There are roadsters, roadracers, trail and trials bikes - almost everything being pre-1983. My family has been in the motorcycle trade for over 100 years. Though it is not my primary occupation, I have a share in a motorcycle shop that builds historic roadrace bikes and also choppers (2 ends of the spectrum...) On a couple of the other forums I participate in, there's a custom of having your signature with your machines added. I think that's fun. What do you folk think? Cheers Pete

I've played with bikes and quads off and on for the last 20 years. Currently I have a '95 XR600R, prior to that was a '92 CR250, '94 XR250L, and other stuff even further back. I've wanted a street bike for a while now and I still don't have one, but my old man picked up a '65 CL72 he's restoring. Along the way he got a basket case CB77 and a spare engine. Over time these old(and fairly unique) Honda have grown on me and now I want one. In the mean time I bought that spare engine off my dad for an outrageous(kidding) $25 and i'm rebuilding it. He mgiht eventually sell me that spare 70% complete SuperHawk as well. Most of the bike is a butchered mess, so I'm not worried about doing a concours resto. Dang, that's some nice photography!
