superhawk 4 cyl.

Post by 305nutt » Thu Apr 07, 2011 5:54 pm

Has anyone on here tryed to stuff a cb350f engine in a superhawk frame. I seen one on ebay a few weeks ago and fell in love, so therefore, I have to try it since I have an extra superhawk frame. The guy said he didn't have to cut anything on the frame which is good, but the 350 engine is lh drive, so that may be tricky. If you type in honda cb77 bike with a cb350 engine in your browser you'll see what I'm talkin about. Thanks in advance for any info or suggestions. nutt

My neighbor did one back in the 70's sometime with a 400F motor. He said he had to make a downtube and move a coupe mounting points something like a quarter inch. Here are some pictures I took of photographs with my phone that he showed me... sorry not great quality, best I could do!

The 400F is a much better motor and transmission than the 350F, go big or go home!

I have seen pictures of a very well engineered CB-77 with a 4cyl(350 or 400) either on this forum or a link from this forum. The bike was immaculate and built by an engineer. My immediate thought was" how are the frame and brakes going to handle the added stress and speed from this powerplant", however it still looked amazing.............................D

Well, got my 350f motor yesterday and got it mounted to the 2 back mounts so far. Looks like it was made for that frame. Looks like the sprocket may be in closer to the frame than the 305 motor was, but thats what machine shops are for. The chain clears the frame ok, but i don't have a rear wheel to mount up yet. I'll try to get some pics uploaded during the build. nutt

MBell,
In the second picture of the bike, there appears to be a CR behind it. What size CR and is it original, a reproduction or something else. In the pic you can see the seat, tank and front fender are CR. BTW a restored 1963 CR93 sold on ebay this week for $40K. Cliff

That 350/400 4 cylinder engine is heavy and not very powerful, but I have to say it makes a nice looking bike. The frame with the 2 front down tubes doesn't have as much eye appeal as the frame that uses the 4 cylinder engine as a frame member, like this one:
