CL77 TIRES - WHAT DO YOU USE?

Post by jcspc » Thu Jul 24, 2008 8:21 pm

OK, What is the definitive answer to this question? What is the proper tires to put on a 65' CL77. Is there a vintage tire, tread pattern, street, or universal? If so, where did you get yours? I have scoured the net looking at tires till me eyes turn red. Cheng Shin, Dunlop, IRC? What say you?

Right now I've got a Dunlop K70, 3.00X19 on the front and a 4.00 X19 motocross knobby on the rear.
The Dunlop is shot but the knobby is in good shape. Any trades?ha ha ha

I used Cheng Shin an bought them from a guy on Ebay for $105.00 delivered for front and back.

3.00-19 front and 3.50-19 back.

If you need to contact him, let me know.

The closest I could find to original style treads were Avon Speedmaster 3.25 front and Avon SM Mark II 3.50 rear from www.tiresunlimited.com

I too use the Cheng Shins like ggray. Purchased from the same guy on EBay.

They look good and work great. The guy is a pleasure to deal with and is providing a great service to this hobby. My 2 cents.

Cheng Shins also. Bought my from JC Whitney. Maybe a little cheaper than the ebay set but not by much. They do have a pretty good selection in their motorcycle catalog and on line.

Thanks, guys.
So far so good. I have looked at the JC Whitney on line cat and found the Cheng Shin C180 for the rear at a 3.50-19 and the front is the C117 at 2.75-19. Didn't see the 3.00. Do you recall the style/model number? The way I understand it the original tire size for the rear was 3.50-19 and the front was a 3.00-19. Am I correct? Has anyone run a 4.00 on the rear? It just might be a little too big and rub the fender.
