Badge Question

Has anybody ever tried to reshape a set of original Honda plastic badges ? There is quite of bit of glazing and one is cupped badly. Will low heat make them mailable or do I just have a nice set of desk ornaments.

I ask this same question a few years ago of a gentleman restoring a CB77 that had some pretty but badly cupped and scratched badges. He said he uses a heat gun and gently, repeat gently, heats the plastic while it is laying flat to eliminate some if not all the cupping. He also mentioned acetone will remove the scratches and bring back surface shine. I have not personally tried this, but you could end up with a twisted mess if you move to fast on this since most heat guns get really hot quick. Maybe someone else has tried this method before.

The technique is described on the VJMC page in the tech tips. You have to be a member to get to that page. $30 membership versus ruining $300 worth of badges; it seems like an easy decision.

I happen to work with a factory overseas that makes very similar items to these. I could get them reproduced at a really good price if the numbers were high enough, like 500 to 1000 pieces minimum. I wonder if that size of a market exists? Maybe on eBay?

$50 is not inexpensive. I'm talking more like a sell price of $10/pair, and that leaves a nice margin for me.

These badges are made of plastic and metal, not gold and crystal. I manufacture stuff like this all the time. I can gang them in a shipping container with another job so the shipping cost is zero.

if you can get them looking as nice as the originals, I'll be a customer.
and going on the fact that other reproductions are selling for $100 plus on ebay, i bet there is at least a 500 item market.
