Insurance

Post by Mike Mullins » Thu Jun 03, 2010 9:44 pm

I am insuring through the local agent who has pretty much all my insurance: household, car, etc. We have always had good service from them. I have 2 bikes covered at present with him (Goldwing is separate policy). I cant find the card right now, but I'm pretty sure its Farmers Insurance Group. My CB 77 is 246.00 / yr. for "full"coverage (as I recall I added uninsured motorist to this, and my son as a secondary driver.) I probably wont ride it as much as the 'wing for sure, but I think this is very reasonable for a streetbike, especially here in NW Indiana: we are actually on the fringe of the Gary, Hammond, East Chicago urban paradise. Check the agent you have your household insurance with: you might be surprised what he can come up with.

(next year when I have it ALL sorted out, I will be riding the snot out of it. I LOVE it ! Its as much fun as the R75/5 I had a couple of years ago. At that point, $246.00 will be really cheap insurance !)

Hi,

Of course it is not comparable (US - Netherlands), but I pay 39,90 and no limitations on miles.
The insurance also covers a second rider and a passenger.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess the cost is location dependent and the restrictions really vary. But if I find myself riding it more frequently, the cost for full insurance is only an extra $100. I'll also have to get regular plates. I heard in some cities around here, the police are cracking down on riders who are abusing the historical plates. Those riders are using their bikes more than occassionally.

I use Geico with full coverage for both my '67 CL 77 and my 2006 Shadow Spirit 750. This covers myself and my wife (she only rides as a passenger, but is covered as driver and/or passenger). I have both bikes registered normally. I pay $231 a year for both. I receive a discount for having taken the MSF course and I'm over 60, so maybe that brings the costs down. Also, maybe my location makes it cheaper, even though we do not have a helmet law (I always wear one).
