CL77 TIRES - WHAT DO YOU USE?DunlopsRob, I installed the K-70, 3.25 on the front and the K-81 4.10 on the rear of my 66CL. They fit and work great. No clearance issues and they look " Right". $ 137.00 delivered from Motorcycle Superstore.com. D
Bought DunlopsI did some price checking and ended up buying a pair of Dunlop K70's from Bike Bandit. The 3.50-19 is listed as a front/rear on their site (which I thought it might be anyway) so I bought a matched set, with new IRC tubes for $129 with my AMA discount, including shipping. That site also gives you points towards future purchases so it ended up about $125 with my Bandit Bucks credited.
If you are an AMA member, Bike Bandit tends to have the best prices, all included, when you factor in the AMA discount. regards, Rob Front K70 was sitting on the doorstep when I got home today. Was checking it out and noticed that there is no direction arrow on the tire. Been a long time since I've seen a tire without a direction arrow. For others using K70's did you find the same thing on yours, no rotation indicator arrow?
Thanks, Rob I just googled Dunlop K70 18" and had a bunch of sites come up. They do make a 4.00-18 if that helps. If they had made a 4.00-19 I would have gone for that over the 3.50-19.
Regarding directional tires, my guess is the last time I bought new tires that were not directional, they very well could have been K70 Dunlops when they were the latest and greatest. regards, Rob
Thanks Rob.
I moved from K70s, in 1974, to TT100s (K81s then) when I ditched my last piece of BritShit -- a '60 BSA A7 Shooting Star -- for a new Suzuki GT380J (which I subsequently traded for the disc-braked GT380L); and there was no way that I was about to start riding a new bike around on those much-maligned, Durex Sensitol-Lubricated Japanese tyres of the day. Regarding K70s: my first CB77 was shod with a Dunlop ribbed front and a K70 rear. The motor leaked oil like the Torrey Canyon -- my own stupidity and inexperience at splitting the crankcases; another story* -- and the back tyre was always coated with copious amounts of Castrol GTX. Yet never once did the bike feel like it was about to break away, wet or dry conditions notwithstanding. And I wore away footrest rubbers like they were a free commodity! My A7 was on a pair of K70s, although it didn't leak quite as badly. Stunning pose and grip for a '70s tyre. I wish I could get them in 2.75 & 3.00 x 18...... *when splitting casings, don't forget to remove the two nuts on top!!
