Painting over powder coatPainting over powder coatI had the front fender and air cleaner covers powdercoated silver on my CB77. However they did not come out the best (blotchy) and the finish seems a little soft. A friend is going to paint the rear fender using the silver paint numbers taken from this web site. I am thinking of asking him to repaint the powder-coated items too, but don't know if it will work. Can the just be sanded with fine grit paper and painted? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
Hi Norm; just seen your query - if I'm not too late already, in the past, when powder coating was not particularly glossy, I used to do just what you are proposing and none of the paints I used, e.g. cellulose, enamel etc. had any bad effect on the powder- just gave a very deep, tough, glossy finish. Don't know about modern solvents but powder is pretty inert - try a small out-of-sight area first.
Cheers, Pete.
