Sorry about the bad info. I was basing my reply on a CB77 assembly.

Regarding the missing knob, it might not look right, but I have seen metric black plastic knobs in hardware stores in those cardboard drawers of nuts, bolts and misc stuff. Some were pretty big. Even if the knob had a female thread, you could make a stud from a metric bolt and screw it into the knob with a little red loctite and then thread the stud into the stem.

Thanks for the suggestion. However, the stock knob has a serrated design (like internal gear teeth) that engages against a lock to prevent it from moving on its own. I'll probably buy a replacement.

Or ask the fellow with the grinder if he can get it out...

I might even be able to remove the existing stud fragment with a vice and a prybar, then glue in a stud with high-strength epoxy (and possibly some fibrous material for reinforcement).
