How easy/hard is it to shorten a clutch cable?

Post by drycounty » Mon Apr 17, 2006 5:55 pm

I just put on the short bars and am curious to know how difficult (or easy?) it is to shorten the clutch cable to fit? Anyone done this? I've been able to find a short version of the brake cable and the throttle cable, but the clutch is rather hard to find.

Thanks in advance!

clutch cable

I did one I got last summer.I warmed-up the metal cap on end of cable with a lighter enough to pull it off rubber casing. I then measured the housing length I needed and then gently cut thru the coiled shell with a hack saw to get length. Then I cut the soldered end off to proper length. Then put the metal cap back on the cable housing.I had trouble getting the soldered end free of the new cable so I reused one from the original cable which was easier to separate from the old cable and then resoldered to the cable. It seems to be holding ok so far.You may find a shop willing to do this if you do not want to do it yourself. I am on a tight budget so I tried it myself.
