Problems shifting to 2nd- Shift Linkage adjustment?

Post by akpasta » Mon May 06, 2013 12:47 pm

Hello,

I read the thread just a few posts down about someone adjusting their "shift linkage" to alleviate problems shifting. I was wondering if that might solve my problem as well.

Engine was re-built and has about 4500 miles on it. I've been noticing the last few months that when I shift into 2nd from first I have to use a very specific finesse, otherwise it sort of overshifts to some kinda false neutral between 2nd and 3rd. I'll shift to 2nd, release the clutch and will be in a sorta neutral, and most of the time I can gently push the shifter down and it will click into gear. I also notice if I don't pull the shifter up all the way, but just sorta go half way, it will click into 2nd fine. This is annoying though and I wanna fix it.

I've been pretty good to the engine since Davo rebuilt it and I bought it from him, but I do almost all my riding in the city, so I shift into 2nd gear CONSTANTLY. Could it have worn out real quick or is there some kind of adjustment you make to the shift linkage (sorta like you would on the brake drum linkage) to account for wear?

Is this the thing that people talk about being at "10 oclock" or "12 oclock" that I want to adjust? Looks like it's around 11 right now.

Oh and just for fun, here's a photo of another superhawk I spotted on the streets of SF (mine is in the back)

Bummer. Seems like a gear problem more than a clutch problem, as it only effects 2nd gear. Could it be worn dogs on the second gear or something?

Me too, but it's always nice to see another superhawk on the road. Seeing them around town is how I discovered them.
