Clutch Adjustment?

Post by carlluvscorinne » Tue Jul 17, 2007 12:52 pm

Hi All:

I noticed on my right side cover there is a notch by the clutch adjuster (where you would use the big flat blade screwdriver to adjust the clutch). Is this a mark I am aiming for or what exactly is this mark for?

Thanks in advance,
Carl

Carl, I don't think I've ever seen a mark there on any other 305 C-whatever. Could it be something that was put there by a previous owner? Just turn the adjuster as needed to get the adjustment right. Kustommusic

I have that mark on my case too. After adjusting it by turning it in until I felt resistance and backing out a little it lined up with that mark. It is new clutch parts. I think maybe it is an indicator to show clutch wear.

Thats kinda what I was wondering..I have a spare side cover and it has the same mark on it. I thought perhaps it was a starting point. Do you thread the long threaded adjuster on the cable at the side cover end all the way in or all the way out when installing a new cable. I guess what I mean is if your putting a bike together, Is that where you start the clutch lifter so it has the proper arc when your clutch and cable is all adjusted properly?

I am by far no expert on these bikes and most of what I have learned is thru my own experience and on this website. I have not changed the cable on my bike. That being said, I think you should thread the cable in pretty far in the case bracket and leave the cable adjustment very loose on the hand lever. Than after installing case turn case adj. screw in until it contacts and than back off a little. Do your final adjustment on the cable at the hand lever. I might be wrong, if I am, I am sure someone will chime in. Good luck.

As ya look at the round adjuster you will see that one end has a slot to the edge.
That slot is to be installed toward the mark on the cover.
This aligns the lube zerk with the hole in the adjuster so lube can get to the cam threads inside the adjuster. ..............lm
