Stiff Clutch Lever

Post by ramwing7 » Sun Sep 04, 2016 9:48 am

I'm wondering if anyone ever figured this on out. I recently installed a new clutch, greased everything up, routed the cable correctly and I still have a very manly clutch pull.
The clutch seems to be functioning properly, but is a very hard pull.
I don't know what else to do, except spend more time in the gym

Beats me.
You referring to the spring that goes between the case and the threaded lifter. I'm going to be looking for a lifter soon because the hole in the lifter that the spring goes to is about worn through.
Could be the wrong spring though. Somewhere in this poor bikes life the mechanics tool of choice seems to have been a pipe wrench.

Look at the angle between the cable and the release arm in the picture, it's past 90°. That means, to release the clutch you have to pull hard enough to pull things into almost a straight line. Back off the cable adjustment until the cable and the arm form a 90° angle with the clutch lever pulled all the way to the grip. Then turn the center adjuster to take up most of the free-play. Adjusted this way, you will have maximum mechanical advantage to release the clutch.
