no neutral with lever

Post by splatt » Sat Mar 26, 2005 11:17 am

ok, so heres my newest problem. on my 66-67 (not sure of year) 305 scrambler, when the clutch lever is pulled, i have no neutral. i pulled the case off, and cable seems to be working fine, i know there has to be some other ways of adjusting this, could anyone help me out? a little background on the bike- it was in storage for about 15 years, then ridden once, and stored again for another 4-5 years. thanks in advance. <br />markus

Markus, Have you tried moving the gear lever with the engine off and the ignition on (to see the neutral lamp)? If you can shift it that way then its clutch adjustment. Do you have access to a shop manual? That describes in detail the proper method for adjusting a clutch. That is better than guessing. Good luck! Steve Greer

most likely the clutch plates are sticking together.either from rust or gummy oil.you should pull and clean the clutch disks.
