Dream 305 clutch

Post by froggy » Fri Oct 31, 2014 2:36 pm

Hi all,
So i took my 1962 Dream 305 (CA77E-211680) clutch out to rebuilt it as it was slipping. It seems to take 1 clutch plate A (which I got) and 4 other plates p/n 22301-266-000 which i can't find. The closest in number matching is so far 22321-266-000.

I don't seem to find references for the parts and what it might mean for the specs (thickness, size, etc..) Any idea?

Also the "parts book" is have use a totally different reference # which I cannot find anywhere on eBay and related sites: C772204. Where does the difference of numbering come from and how do you cross-reference them?
The C772204 p/n might be a Honda only reference #. If so, why aren't they referred to that way?

Thank you
Cheers

Froggy

You have an 'old' parts book with an old numbering system. Honda changed the system to the new style in the early 60s.

Take a look here for the later numbers.

thx Gman for the info. I had been on that website and was trying to get confirmation on my newly acquired parts list! Yeah for obsolete bran new NOS parts manuals...
Is there a good parts manual on ebay that has the correct p/n ?
thx

PS: I rebuild the clutch now. Is there a particular torque at which i should tight the bolt w/ springs holding the clutch plate in place or do you just tighten until the whole assembly starts rotating?
Also, I did order a NOS plate A but didn't put it in as i was 3.0mm thick and the one that was inside was 1.5mm. Being a noob at clutch rebuilding I was worried about doing something wrong. But maybe who ever worked on it last didn't place the correct parts in. Should I put the 3mm plate in instead?

So, after putting all the friction disks and clutch plates together and closing the set with the pressure plate, I can move the plates/friction disk with my finger inside the basket assembly. Seems to have 1-2mm of play.
Is this normal, or should I replace the first plate that presently is 1.5mm thick with the other one I have that is 3mm thick. This would likely take care of the play I see.
Thank you
