output shaft won't turn
output shaft won't turnHad to do a rebuild on my '64 c78 (believe it's a JDM 305 Dream) - when I had the cases split I had all gears turning smoothly. But when I put the motor in the frame, I couldn't get the chain on because I can't turn the output shaft (with its gear for the rear-wheel chain).
I took it back out, checked that everything was good again, made sure all gears shift and shafts move as they should. Put cases back together, double-checked that output shaft was spinning freely. I left it in neutral. But as soon as I put it back in the frame, the output shaft was 'frozen' solid. Anybody got any ideas for me on what I can do? Thx.
I am no expert but the kick start locator pin may be a consideration. Threads through the gear selector side of the case. If not lined up with the slot on the kick start spindle it will press against the kickstart gear and restrict the rotation of the gearbox. If it is this you can unscrew the bolt slightly and it should free up, rotate the kickstart until it aligns with the cut-out section and tighten the bolt again.
something's missingAha. Something called a 'roller, 5x6.5' that goes somewhere between the counter shaft and its end bushing is missing. The parts diagram and service manual I have didn't identify it, but the wonderful people at CMS-NL have the best fiches in the world and that helped me out.
Even a good bike doesn't work if it's missing parts! I'll get me one 'roller, 5x6.5'.
doh!I guess it'll work better if I put these in… Let you know how it goes.
