I have a 64 Ca77 with shifting issues. I can go up in gear just fine but when I go to downshift, I end up in neutral instead of a lower gear. I must then upshift back into gear and then I can downshift gears. This happens consistantly. If I hard shift down by not holding in the clutch, it downshifts normally.

Any Ideas??

I'd have a look at the shift mechanism behind the clutch first. It's likely you'll have to split the cases though and look for wear in the bushings, shift forks, gear dogs, etc. How many miles?

Probably some wear on the inside depending on oil changes, shifting habits, etc. I would first pull off the clutch cover and the clutch to get a look at the shift ratchet and detent mechanisms. You can also turn the drum by hand then. If you've never been in there, here's what it should look like...

Everything looks good after taking the clutch cover off. Unfortunately, I think it is time to split the case. A bit out of my league repairwise.
