correct sprocket?

Post by drab » Sat Jun 15, 2013 5:59 pm

Hello,

I have been reading that there is an early and late version of the drive train sprocket. One with shallow splines and the other with deeper ones.

I just ordered a 15t Sprocket from Ohio Cycle and ordered the late model (I believe that one would fit both early and late).

However when replacing, the new sprocket will not go on very smoothly. I believe I could get it on with some force, but never think that is a good idea, so I wanted to run a few pictures by and see if I have a mix up of early and late models?

In the photos you can see the old sprocket and the new

and without any sprocket:

Thanks for the help.

Those splines are a pretty close fit. Try some red scotchbrite or steel wool on the shaft and sprocket to take off any corrosion. Should slide on without a hammer.

Hard to say but I have 3 new 16 tooth sprockets if you want to try one (late style and they fit mine just fine)

I'lll try a quick sanding. I just read on here that someone had the same problem and took a file to it and it worked out just fine...

I'll give that a go and if not go for another sprocket.

thx
