Tranny stuck in neutral
Tranny stuck in neutralI just purchased a 1966 Honda Dream CA77 305. I am a new member to this forum. I was riding the bike and downshifted from 2nd to 1st and the tranny became locked in neutral. I think the problem is the shifting forks. How can I inspect the shifting forks?
shifting forksDog,
Congratulations on your new purchase. By chance did you attempt to upshift the trans, say back to second when this occured? At any rate, to answer your question, the motor will need to be dropped, :( flipped over and the bottom case half separated for this inspection. As far as the "condition" of the forks and what constitutes a need to repair/replace can be determined here with uploaded images or it may be another obvious issue that has caused your trouble. There are a number of people here who will be a definite asset to you as well as the ability to "search" the forum for information. Some may suggest you purchase the Bill Silvers repair manual for your bike which is an excellent idea. Digital camera and notes are great tools too when doing any major repair for the not so savy. Get ready for some learnin' about this vintage machine you just bought! Mike
Tranny stuck in neutralMike, , thanks for your reply. You were right, I was trying to go back to second gear when the tranny became locked in neutral. I was afraid that the motor will have to come out. I will pick-up a Bill Silvers manual and continue to post information on the work needed to be done as well as completed. This is a great forum with some invaluable information that has already became very useful. Thanks again for all your help. Dog
