Clutch Problem after Kickstarter Fix!

Post by derekephillips » Wed Oct 06, 2010 9:16 pm

I recently removed the rightside crankcase cover to replace the kickstarter knuckle. I replaced it with no problem, put the cover back on made sure the ball was in place on the clutch adjuster. Went to start the bike and noticed that my clutch lever was way to easy to pull, very lttle resistance compared to what it was before.

I started the bike and engaged the clutch lever and went to shift into first, has soon as I hit first the bike lunged forward without me disengaging the clutch lever. I have tried readjusting the clutch cables in and out, also the clutch adjuster on the crankcase. I have taken it off and reinspected it everything appears to be ok. Steel ball still in place, clutch adjuster arm resting at the 7' o clock position. Have also tried different positions of the adjuster arm. Nothing seems to work. VERY FRUSTRATED!!!! No matter what I do the resistance on the clutch lever does not change and it goes into gear without me disengaging the lever.

All I did was remove the cover, replace the kickstarter knuckle and put the cover back on. Did nothing else!
Please Help!

Derek, what model? Something obviously has changed between forst removal of the cover. You loosened the bolt on outer cover, and turned the large flat blade adjuster to remove slack? Pics are worth a thousand words, inside and out of the cover please.
