crazy fork oil idea?

Post by R100 » Fri Apr 17, 2015 4:27 pm

Fork oil is getting really expensive.
My '66 Triumph took motor oil in the forks.
Nothing on the shelf except Rotella T 15-40.
Worth a try?

Why not?

As long as there is sufficient lubrication there will be no mechanical damage and the Rotella T will certainly prevent that. The question is whether you are happy with the shock absorbing properties of the forks. If they are too stiff go for a lighter oil, otherwise try a heavier one.

I have always use automatic transmission fluid (non-Ford) with success but that is only because it was recommended to me long ago.

I think the ATF was used because of its anti foaming properties.
