When the plate was off the bike the shoes were expanding at the same time and the same distance outwards!

Hi all those who responded to my query. I've recovered from the viral thing at last and I moved the brake linkage anticlockwise a couple of splines. It's too cold and icey to ride the bike but in the garage it feels better.
