CL77 Snuff-or-Nots QuestionCL77 Snuff-or-Nots QuestionHi, do you think this bolt between the stock pipes and the tips I put on was originally for Snuff-or-Nots? I stuck a bolt in there back in the day and it seems like there was some kind of straight through baffle of some sort in place.
These pipes could be off another year than the '67 I've been calling her. The '66 parts manual doesn't show a bolt there though. There is another bolt on the bottom pipe facing down. Also, if I do add Snuff-or-Nots will the knobs sit high enough to clear the exhaust shield? My bike isn't that loud with my current configuration so if you think I should leave it alone I probably will. It would be more of a conversation piece.
The pipes originally had 6mm holes on the inside(toward the wheel) near the end to hold the diffusers(baffles) in place. Later pipes, of course, had a welded muffler. Your pipes look a little short, probably from a PO hacksawing the muffler off. He was probably too lazy to remove the pipes to drill them in the right place for Snuff-or-Nots.

My pipes actually were cut close to to where the heat shield ends. The OEM pipes slid into the tips quite a bit, past the u-bolt. I think mine started out like the ones in this picture, I didn't realize there were so many variations between the different years and models. Short shields, long shields, straight pipes, guppy with one pipe welded, guppy with both pipes welded etc... Still trying to figure out what the upward/downward bolts were for and if they were original issue. G
