CB450 shocks work in a pinch
CB450 shocks work in a pinchI have had my 63 CB77 on the road for almost a year now, and it is a lot of fun. The LM-supplied 4 over pistons are working great. And Rick's Vintage was able to supply a much needed NOS 2nd gear. It sure does not take much wear before gear dogs are done!
One problem has been a sharp rap to the spine whenever hitting bumps, and those hurt at highway speeds. Cranking the preload to max was not the solution. I assume the problem is missing rubber bumpers on the shock rods. Would you believe it, the showy SHOWA shock absorbers from a 1971 CB450 that happened to be sitting in my garage drop right in. What an improvement they make! Of course, if I ever get the 450 engine freed and running I will need to buy some new ones, but that may never happen. I hope someone else can use the information that there are a lot of commonality among Honda's shock absorbers. On the other hand, if I have made a serious mistake and am doomed I am sure someone will point it out.
My bad. Picture above with chrome cover is old shock. New one from CB450 is below.
It does not look stock, but my bike is just a rider. I like the way it looks OK, but it is surely not very original. Some of the bikes on this site look original and are absolutely beautiful. On the other hand, I do ride mine on dirt fire roads through the local mountains. brand of mufflersredblk 63 or anyone else , what brand of mufflers are on the bike pictured ? thanks
