Main jet source
Main jet sourceAfter installing non-stock mufflers (the "Dunstall" ones from JCW) I need to go up a size from my stock size 135 main jets. This is for a 63 CB77 with a 65 engine, engine # cb77e-1005392.
I already have the needles set high, lowest clip position, so the part throttle mix is OK. Can anyone recommend where I can find some size 140 main jets? (Also looking for some 125s for a SL350 K1) Thanks, Larry - Pasadena
Re: Main jet sourceBill Silver has them. ........lm
interplay between main jet size and needle clipThank you, Ed. Bill Silver was nice to deal with, and my jets will be in the mail soon.
I'll try to update the forum on how the 8% change in jet area affect the full-throttle mixture. I'm also guessing I'll be able to drop the needles a groove or two, but not sure. By the way, one symptom I was running lean was that the engine seized on the Foothill Freeway last weekend. I was able to pull in the clutch and coast down to 10 MPH, then the engine bump-started and ran fine on the -slow- way home. I hope the momentary lockup leaves no permanent damage! Larry
Re: interplay between main jet size and needle clipYa welcome for sure.
Back in about 1964 my friend Joe and I were riding up the Hollywood grade north and I saw his bike seize as the rear tire suddenly slid rather than rotate then after Joe released the clutch (pulled the lever as a natural response) the tire rotated. When we dissembled the engine we found that Both Pistons had seized. Cause??? Joe was a rider and didn't worry about maintenance and the engine was low on Old Dirty Oil. Cure was a trip to the local lawn mower shop for a cylinder hone and 2 pistons/rings from the HONDA dealer. We reused all the gaskets and no leaks. Ah those were the days/rides. ..........lm quote="redblk63"]Thank you, Ed. Bill Silver was nice to deal with, and my jets will be in the mail soon. Main JetsHey Larry,
I installed the dustalls as well on my bike, and I have the 140's from bill, but they were still too lean. I upgraded to 150's and they it runs much better at full throttle, you can find them at jets are us. http://jetsrus.com/a_jet_kit_street/hon ... K_305.html I am in San Francisco so its basically flat here, so im sure you will need larger mains in pasadena, as bill lives in san diego and runs on the 5th needle position with 140's. then again he has all stock filters and pipes. When I bought the 140's Bill warned me that my setup would still be too lean, as I am running with stock filters as well. cheers, Ian
Ian,
what were your symptoms when you were running lean? My bike keeps cutting out on hills, and I was wondering if I needed to rejet my carb. I am running dunstall reverse cones. Kellie

yes definately rejet your carbs, I am running the dunstalls with stock air filters, and needle (never use keyster carb kit metals) try the 140's or buy from jets are us for the 150's, but make sure that you buy the the correct thread diameter, as the remakes will not screw into the jet holster from a later model. Why they changed this back in 65 I have no idea.
