Carb (Airbox issue?)

Post by Sascha » Fri Apr 08, 2011 8:59 am

Hey guys,

So I talked to a long time friend of mine and explained the issue ive been having with the carb, let me racap...

- I can only run it with the choke closed
- When I open the choke it dies
- the idle is really high
- When riding it it loses all power when I give it throttle

He is suggesting that its because I am running it without an air filter at the moment... He suggested that I pick up a new filter because I am running way too much air into the carb. Can anyone confirm that this would be a possible problem/fix?

He mentioned that because Im not jetted for no air filter, this would cause the bike to die on me... It seems to make sense because, everytime I adjust the idle screw in, it doesnt make a difference... which would probably be the case without an air filter becuase its getting too much air... Thoguhts!?

Also - Anyone know the size (Diameter) I need or where to get an air filter (K&N) - I would ratehr just use a pod or something...

Thanks!
sascha

Hey LM,

So she runs, but everytime i try to 'open' the choke (move the lever down) she dies... I dont have an air filter on it at all right now. If I adjust the idle screw in or out, it makes no difference, still idles very high, Im told its probably too much air, thats why its running with the choke closed *up position*... Thoughts?

Why did ya open this at two locations?

It's either timing or fuel.
I'd go with fuel.
I've talked ya through the carb adjustment several times so I recommend ya get it off the engine and look at the jets and float adjustment.
If that doesn't fix it ya may want to take it to someone who understands engines. .........lm

Hey LM

So a couple last questions/points I could use your opinion on:

I dont have an air filter on the carb at the moment, is that a problem or will it run without a filter... Im thinking it could be getting too much air!? thoughts.

She fires up no problem with one kick, that should eliminate the timing as an issue... right?

Also... I forgot to mention that I can now open and close the choke and she doesnt die anymore...
Now just trying to get the throttle to respond...
