type of gas?

Post by stumped » Tue Nov 09, 2004 4:15 pm

Hi All,
Probably a stupid question, but please help. I have a 305 Dream that I am restoring. I'm new to older bikes and am enjoying the project. I'm at the point to riding it but want to be sure I'm giving it the right food. Does it take a high octane gasoline with a lead additive or just unleaded gas?
Thanks for your help.
I just got done restoring a 67, 305 scrambler and i am positive that it is a hi octane gas with lead additive, thats what i was told to use from the original owner and it works great!

I am also working on my 1966 305 I purchased in April. I have the original owners manual and here is what is says:
"Our recommended octane number of petrol in use is 85 to 95. It is advisable to use petrolof higher quality which is supplied from trustworthy petrol stands."
I am using 87 out of the tank at "trustworthy petrol stands"!

From talking w/ numerous guys that have been riding, restoring, and racing 305's since '61 and my own 15 years of being a mechanic I advise running a high octane fuel from a "trustworthy petrol stand"
in any gas engine.

georGe
