I have a '68 CB77 and I am trying to remove the petcock. Mine doesn't have a nut visible from the outside. How should I proceed?

Petcock Removal
The newer style tanks/petcocks use a screw that goes trough the middle of the petcock and bolts up to a captive nut on the tank.(at least its so on my 73 CL125S) Yours might be the same.
Turn off the fuel, get a big rag under the bowl, take off the bowl, and you should be able to see the screw once you remove the filter screen. Plan on replacing all the rubber parts(which should be available at a dealer and fit better than any aftermarket kits). Use a light coat of petroleum jelly on reassembly good luck!
I wouldn't use it on the float bowl gaskets. just make sure they are seated on the carb body, then set the bowl on top of it(assuming the carbs are off the engine).
word of caution: I have seen aftermarket gaskets either swell, or be larger on the inside where they can contact the float. using vaseline on the gasket could cause them to slip out and make this condition worse! Forget about properly tuning your carbs then. your floats will stick and you'll beat you head against the wall trying to figure it out. What I do use on the gaskets though is a small, really small amount of permatex aviation sealer on the 4 corners, but only on the carb body! Install the bowls and let the glue set for whatever the directions say. then remove the bowls and check that the float moves without interference with the gasket. the glue will help keep the gasket in place if you change jets or want to clean the bowls with the carbs on the bike
