Carb Float Adjustment ClarificationLOUD MOUSE wrote:
I have a simple way to set the floats on the CB/CL77 carbs. With the bowls removed and also the main jet I look across the bottoms of the floats and set the float tang to just touch the needle valve at the same time I just see the brass main jet holder. ...................lm hello lm. i drew this quick diagram to illustrate your way to adjust the floats. im trying to understand it correctly, can you tell me is this is correct? if not can you inform me on how to correct it? thanks
Good drawing. Ya have it right. ..............lm

Can someone clarify for me... the 26.5mm, I can see from the Clymer it's from the lip of the body to the top of the float (when upside down, as in the illustration). But is that the highest range of motion, or lowest (again, when the carb is upside down)?
I assumed it was at the lowest, since that made sense with the carb right-side up and limiting how high the float would go before shutting off incoming gas. It was at 19.5mm, so I readjusted to 26.5mm. But now I'm not getting any gas into the bowl until I take the bowl off the carb (still installed on the bike) and letting the floats hang lower. So I think maybe I didn't quite understand exactly what I was setting before...

Be sure to squeeze the floats toward the middle so they don't hang up on the bowl gasket. The pin in the needle can't be depressed. The tang must barely touch the pin when the float is at 26.5 MM. That is the top of the fuel allowed into the bowl but the tang does go into the needle as you ride. ..........lm

Re: Carb Float Adjustment ClarificationJust to really throw a spaniard in the works: Bill Silver's publication states float measurements of
So when the tang is JUST touching the needle you can JUST see the bottom of the mainjet holder.
THEN if you depress the float all the way to the carb body (without bending of course) the measurement from the notched lip of the carb body to the floats bottom should be 22.5 mm on a cb77 with square bowls? sorry, i'm just trying to pinpoint my slow throttle response issue. sure as day might have to do with my throttle cable instead, but I'm going to buy two new carbkits, replace jets and gaskets (bowls still leaking gas) before I make that assumption.
