Game: What the hell happened to this carb?!?

Took the carb off my CA77 and broke it open and well...not quite sure what the hell it is. I have never seen anything like it...

It's called corrosion! It's what is left in your carb after the fuel has evaporated, and the carb has sat empty for years. This is very common with carbs that have sat dry for long periods of time.

Is it recoverable? Or is the carb a loss? Is that something I can get clean with cleaner and then hit with a small bead blaster?

If you decide to blast, I would suggest that you put the pieces into a pot of boiling water, to get rid of any grit left behind, from blasting.

Took it to work, cleaned it...bad news is, carb is toast. The buildup at through the aluminum in the bowl cover, and looking at the channels for the jets, that looks just as bad....oh well...start lookin for a carb now.

The answer to your original question is. WATER got in it and evaporated and what you saw was the reaction of the water to the metal and the calcium is what's left. Very common. ....................lm

The buildup didn't eat the aluminum, the buildup IS the aluminum! Only now it's aluminum oxide! Which isn't very good for making a carburator because it has very loose molecular bond now that it's taken the oxygen molecules out of the water. But I bet if ya had a big enough aluminum float bowl and let the water sit in it for long enough, you could run it around the block on the leftover hydrogen!
