Fuel Type
LM, you slay me! Talk about "let's not waste syllables"! Still, I'm happy to make up the shortfall....
BTW, I use a mix of Remy Martin VSOP Cognac & Cristal vintage Champagne in my CB77; it works out cheaper than petrol....sorry, gasoline! Seriously, though: any adjustments to timing etc that we should know about? Excuse the ignorance, but I've been running diesel cars for over 20 years now (apart from her MINI Cooper).
I like your fuel mixture but I for one feel you are wasting a good thing there!!!!!!!!.
My 1963 SH runs on the highest octane the station I stop at has. Hoping not to start another gas/oil debate I experienced something with my 2 stroke race Stadium Super Lite that surprised me. I was running regular un-leaded and had a pyrometer in the exhaust pipe and my carb was jetted so my piston melt down temp had 300 degrees to go higher. One event a feller had 112 octane race fuel for sale and I drained my tank and ran that fuel for the first practice. Of course I had my eyes glued to that meter and to my total surprise the exhaust temp went down quite a lot. (I can't remember the actual numbers) SO from that time on I run the highest octane in my bike but as my FORD Freestyle says to use only 87 so that's what I run. I tune my CB77 the way my tuning info is in the FAQ section of this forum and have no engine problems. ...................lm
RIDE IT DON'T HIDE IT!
In my area (upper midwest), only the mid grades specify 10% ethanol on the pump, but I'm assuming that the other grades have some, too, unless you get the non-oxy stuff.
I've played a little with using regular and premium with old bikes, old tractor, and my 15 yo boat w/150hp outboard, and I have never seen any performance differences. I use the non-oxy whenever possible, though, mainly because if I forget to stabilize something, I'm less likely to find a gummy mess later on. This is esp true with something like my boat, which sits quite-a-bit between uses. Scottie '65 CL77 (in pieces right now...)
