Just found your site this week. You do some great work! Today I split the cases on CB77E-24, l believe it has a couple of differences from yours. My heavy cam has also been replaced, cases were previously split.

The spacer modification does not give you modern suspension, but it did help me win the AMA Mid-Ohio Vintage MotoX this year (my age class) on a 1963 Dream......

Shock Covers - Plastic or metal?

From my experience, (I'm not a parts manual guy) all the early CA77's had metal shock covers. After 1960 or 1961 only the white ones had metal shock covers, even all the CA78's.

I have several early Superhawks (pre-#50) that are all blue. I've heard of a few more (pre#200) that are also blue.
