FYI there is usually a couple of sets of new spokes on e bay that seem to be quite reasonable in price.

I was thinking about getting a different hub to lace up to the 16" rim. I don't want to change the handling of the old girl, so larger diameter wheels aren't in the cards. If someone has a a dual leading shoe drum from a superhawk or other Honda, could you post the diameter of the backing plate and of the shoes attached to the plate? Also the width of the shoes would be perfect.

The biggest disadvantage to lengthening a swingarm is that the bike will turn in slower. A shorter machine is more "flickable". I put a swingarm from a '67 onto my '72 T500 suzuki racer (3" shorter).
